Feedback Thoughts:
My Experience:
The most experience I have is with art. We do critiques in all of the classes I have been in. I have never been one to shy away from giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I also always enjoy being given feedback because I am a perfectionist and am never happy with what I do. I aways want to know what I can do to work towards being better.
"How to Get Past Negativity Bias in Order to Hardwire Positive Experiences" Article :
One line that really stood out to me was: " This work is especially important because the brain has evolved to prioritize negative input over positive feedback". I feel like this is very relatable. If you do something you are proud of and you get 9 good comments and 1 negative, it is likely the only one you will remember is the bad one. Depending on the situation it can even keep you up at night thinking about only negative comment you received. It goes on to dicuss the Stone Age which is exactly where my head goes as a student studying biology. It must be because of evolution because it is better to learn from mistakes because mistakes can cause you your life then and now. Though now it is applicable to trivial things but because of our evolution it applies to a wider range of situations then life or death. The HEAL method of dealing with negative experience makes me think of the film Inside Out because Riley has a memory and Joy and Sadness both enjoy the memory. Joy remembers the team and her parents celebrating her while sadness enjoyed the memory because Riley had just lost the match and was crying alone. This is one experience that has a very high high and a very low low. These pairs together makes the blow of losing the match tolerable for such a young person to experience.
"Make Good Art: Neil Gaiman's Advice on the Creative Life" Article :
This article is so relatable to me. When I went to camp crimson I got extremely sick the first day and had to leave just 2 hours in. I was completely devastated because out of who knows how many groups my boyfriend and I got put in the same group and it was going to be so fun to experience it with him, but I had to go home and rest. I was so sad that I decided to get lost in a painting and by the time the camp was over I made this:
I ended up giving it to my boyfriends dad. I had a bad situation, but gave me the motivation and time to create "Art". I also agree with the articles statements about mistakes. I believe it is the best way to learn. There is also an important scene in the film Meet the Robinsons that talks about this exact topic. Lewis is disheartened by failing and the family celebrates his failure. They say specifically that "from failing you learn, from success? not so much".
